Manage Users

Types of Users

CarbonView supports 6 different roles that users can be assigned to:

  • Administrative
  • Open
  • Structured
  • Restricted
  • Audit
  • Restricted Audit

Administrative Role

  • Administrative user performs tasks like creating and managing other users, assets, entity profile, and emission source profile.
  • Administrative user could also reset password for users in case they forget their passwords.
  • Administrative user is responsible for running required reports for an organization
  • Administrative user can enter and view data for all the entities across an organization, irrespective of who entered the data.

Open Role

  • Open user can enter data for all the entities and emission sources across organization.
  • Open user can view and modify emission data entered by all other users across organization.
  • Open user cannot perform any other administrative tasks like setting up entities, users, or the emission profile.

Structured Role

  • Structured users are the users with very limited visibility.
  • They have visibility only over the entities an emission sources assigned to them and could not view entire organization entities or emission profile.
  • Structured users can only view data entered by them, they cannot view data entered by other users.
  • A Structured user will not be able to login to CarbonView if they have not been assigned specific entity & emission sources. This has been assigned by the Admin user. To assign emission sources to structured users, the admin user needs to access the Assign Users to Sources and/or Assign Users to Assets section.

Restricted Role

  • Users can be restricted to have access to specific parts of the organization.
  • These users can view all the data for the entities that they have access to and can view reports that are generated on their behalf by either administrative or open role user.
  • Has access to Dashboard, Emission Data and Reports menus. Within the Reports, restricted users can only see data for entities that they have been assigned to in the Manage Accounts section.
  • A Restricted user will not be able to login to CarbonView if no account has been assigned by the Admin user. To assign an account to a restricted users, the admin user needs to access the Manage Accounts section.

Audit Role

  • Users have the ability to see everything the Administrative Role can see.
  • Users have only read-only access, no ability to edit or modify.

Restricted Audit Role

  • Users have the ability to see everything that they has as a Restricted Role can see.
  • Restricted Roles are allocated to entities in the Manage Accounts section.
  • Users have only read-only access, no ability to edit or modify.

Creating and Updating Users

Navigate to Admin menu > Users > Manage Users

Enter the following information. Required fields are marked with asterisks (*). Make sure that you provide the required information; otherwise, the system will not allow you to proceed:

a. *User Name - enter the email address of the user you are creating. This will serve as the user's login in the application. The user name has to be unique.

b. First Name - enter the given name of the user you are creating.

c. Last Name - enter the surname of the user you are creating.

d. *E-mail - enter the email address of the user.

e. Enabled - check the box to indicate that the user is active. Otherwise, uncheck the box to deactivate the user. Defaults to active.

f. Role - enter the role designated to the user.

g. *Password - enter the login password feed. The password must be 4 to 12 characters in length and must not contain spaces.

h. *Verify Password - re-enter the login password feed to validate the previously entered password. Preferences:

i. Translation - defaults to “en_default” for English.

j. Date Format - user preferred date format. Defaults to dd/mm/yyyy. This is the date format required for all data CSV uploads.

k. Time Format - user preferred time format. Defaults to “hh:mm a” e.g., 2:30 PM

l. Time Zone - user preferred time zone reference.

m. Number Format - user preferred number format. The following rules apply: “1,234.56” - if the number includes the thousand separator, users can enter a number with or without the thousand separator. The thousand separator is always converted to its number form for example, 1,23456 is translated as “123,456”. “1234.56” - if the number includes the decimal point, the user should not include a thousand separator in the number. Decimals should be correctly placed at all times. The system will round off if more than 2 digit decimal numbers is entered. “-1234.12” - if the number is negative, the negative sign ( - ) should be placed preceding the number. Parenthesis is not an acceptable alternative negative number presentation.

n. Number Scaling - user specified decimal preference applicable only to emission conversion factors and computation of GHGs where values are sometimes extremely small. All numeric fields will display numbers in the scale that the user specifies.

Select from the following options:

Click the Save button to save the user's details. The message “User has been saved.” is displayed and the user is added in the Users List. Click the Cancel button to abort the user creation process and return to the Manage Users page.
