Manage Translations

Overview

  • Admin Users have the ability to add languages or labels to translate CarbonView into the language of their choice.
  • Multiple translations can be set up for an organisation in CarbonView.
  • Translations can then be assigned to individual Users (in the Manage Users section) so that users around the world can use CarbonView in their language of choice.
  • CarbonView supports non-latin alphabet characters, enabling the translation into Mandarin, Japanese, Arabic, etc
  • The “Manage Translations” section also enables the customisation of Flexible Fields. CarbonView has 10 Flexible Fields available for use in capturing additional data, where a field is not available within CarbonView's standard setup.

To Create a New Translation

1. Click Admin > Global Settings > Manage Translations

2. The Manage Translation Page contains the following:

  • “Translation” Field
  • “Translation Group” Field
  • “Create Translation” Field
  • Table of Default Values and corresponding fields to input Translated Values.

3. To create a new Translation, type the New Translation name into the “Create Translation” Field. Click “Create Translation”.

4. Click on the dropdown in the “Translation” field and you should see this new Translation appear. Select it.

5. Now you are ready to begin translating the values in CarbonView into your desired language. All text within CarbonView is organised into “Translation Groups”. For example, if you select “Unit of Measure” from the “Translation Group” dropdown, the full list of all units of measure will display ready for you to input the translated value. Simply work through the relevant Translation Groups to add all translated values.

To Assign a Translation to a User

1. Now that you have created a new Translation, it needs to be assigned to the Users that requires it.

2. Assigning Translations to Users is done in the Manage Users section.

3. Go to Admin > Users > Manage Users.

4. Click the “Edit” button next to the User you want to assign the Translation to.

5. In the “Update User” form, select the desired translation from the “Translation” field. Click “Save”.

6. The User will now see CarbonView using this Translation.

To Create & Customise Flexible Fields

1. CarbonView has 10 Flexible Fields available to add to the Manage Data form for organisations to capture additional data as needed. For example, if an organisation captures the distance traveled by all fleet and they want to also capture the vehicle driver's name, they can customise/translate one of the Flexible Fields to become “Driver Name”.

2. Flexible Fields are available in the Translation Group “Manage Emission Data Page”.

3. As all users are setup as default with the Translation “en_default”, by updating the “en_default” Translation, all users should then see the new fields.

Therefore, to customise a flexible field, do as follows:

  • Set “Translation” to “en_default”
  • Set “Translation Group” to “Manage Emission Data Page”
  • Navigate to pages 35 & 36 of the Values Table. This should take you to the start of “F” values and you'll find a list of 15 flexible fields. For example, “Flex 1” to “Flex 15”.
  • Type your new field label into the “Translated Value” field next to the desired flex field.
  • Important Note:
    • Flex Fields 1-5 capture numerical data (i.e. 5,231.32). These should be used if you want to capture data to be summed / used in future calculations.
    • Flex Fields 7-15 capture text data (i.e. Bob Smith). These should be used if you want to capture descriptive data that you may want to group/sort data by in future reports.
